Expanding access to civil legal services in Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation Inc. (WisTAF) is dedicated to equal access to the civil justice system, funding legal services for low-income persons through the fair and effective administration of Interest On Lawyers' Trust Accounts (IOLTA), Public Interest Legal Services Fund (PILSF), and other sources.

WisTAF Announces New Executive Director

MADISON, Wisconsin – The Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation board of directors is pleased to announce that Rebecca Murray has been named WisTAF’s new executive director.

Murray, an experienced nonprofit professional, began her career with WisTAF in 2008 – serving in the roles of program manager, assistant director and, most recently, acting executive director. She also brings over twelve years of experience from her career at the State Bar of Wisconsin, advancing through the association’s communications and marketing departments.

“I have had the privilege of working with Rebecca Murray for several years as a board member at WisTAF, as well as previously on committees for the State Bar,” said WisTAF president, Kevin Palmersheim. “She is an exceptional individual who possesses the ideal combination of aptitude, a compelling desire to help others, and humility. I know Becky will be an outstanding executive director for WisTAF, and we chose her from a pool of highly qualified applicants because she is the right person to lead this agency and build upon its good work.”

As executive director, Murray will oversee the management and implementation of the Foundation’s various grant programs devoted to the provision of direct civil legal assistance to persons who are at or below 125% of the federal poverty level. She also will oversee management of Wisconsin’s Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program. Thousands of Wisconsin’s attorneys and over 200 financial institutions participate in the IOLTA program, which is governed by Wisconsin Supreme Court Rules.

Murray received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1995. She is a member of the National Association of IOLTA Programs, Management Information Exchange and volunteers her time on several nonprofit boards.

“As someone who feels passionate about access to justice, I recognize what a special honor it is to lead an organization like WisTAF,” Murray said. “I look forward to working with the board of directors, staff, and WisTAF’s many legal profession and financial industry partners to achieve an inclusive justice system.”

About WisTAF: The Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to equal access to civil justice. Created in 1986 by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to aid the courts and improve the administration of justice, WisTAF brings Wisconsin’s legal and financial communities together to generate funds which are used to make grants to agencies providing civil legal services to Wisconsin’s most vulnerable residents. Families and individuals throughout the state receive the legal help they need to deal with such issues as escaping domestic violence and abuse, preventing homelessness and obtaining the medical benefits they are due, to name just a few.
