Wisconsin Supreme Court rules allow attorneys to hold trust accounts at any IOLTA participating financial institution. The choice of where to locate your IOLTA is more than a business decision: it is a chance for your firm to make a difference to people who are struggling to seek justice.
Your law firm can increase access to justice for people of limited means in Wisconsin by banking with a Prime Partner financial institution.
Prime Partner financial institutions go above and beyond by voluntarily paying interest rates on IOLTA accounts that are at least 0.50 percent higher than required under Supreme Court rules. The additional interest means more civil legal aid in communities throughout Wisconsin.
Most Wisconsin banks and credit unions already participate in the IOLTA program, but if you hope to work with a financial institution that doesn't, feel free to refer that bank or credit union to WisTAF for instructions on how to join IOLTA.
If your firm banks with a financial institution that participates in the IOLTA program but has not become an IOLTA Prime Partner, please consider sharing our information on how leading as a Prime Partner benefits financial institutions — and is a way for banks and credit unions to join Wisconsin's lawyers and judges in supporting civil legal aid. You may be able to increase access to justice in Wisconsin simply by urging your financial institution to "become a Prime Partner today!"
