Governing rules

The Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation gets its name from our original civil legal aid funding source, the Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program. Chapter 13 of the Wisconsin Supreme Court Rules established the IOLTA program and WisTAF as its administrator in 1986.

In 2005, the rule was amended to include the creation of the Public Interest Legal Services Fund (PILSF).

Wisconsin’s Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys, specifically Supreme Court Rule 20:1.15, describes trust account management requirements.

Both rules can be found on the Wisconsin Supreme Court website.
